Peggy Ann Franklin Thompson, 85, of Front Royal, VA, passed away peacefully at Warren Memorial Hospital on June 29, 2026.
A celebration of Peggy’s life will be held to honor and remember the wonderful woman she was. Family Night will be Monday, July 6 from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. at Maddox Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 7 at 1 p.m. at Front Royal United Methodist Church with Rev. Gary Heaton officiating with graveside at Panorama Memorial Gardens. A reception will follow at Front Royal United Methodist Church.
Peggy was born October 8, 1940 in Frederick County, VA to the late James Leroy Franklin and Nora Elizabeth Headley Franklin Shifflett.
She married the love of her life, Walter Edwin “Eddie” Thompson, on February 19, 1960. He preceded her in death on January 1, 2006.
Peggy was a member of the Front Royal United Methodist Church, where she lovingly prepared many meals for the congregation and shared her gift of hospitality with others. She was also a lifetime Associate Member of the Front Royal Volunteer Fire Department Company 1, where she assisted in raising funds for the department at Friday night bingo and the Firemen’s Carnival.
Peggy was also a member of the Epsilon Sigma Alpha (ESA) Front Royal Chapter, Delta Rho. member of the Front Royal Beautification, past presidents of several Warren County School PTA Programs, was a Girl Scout Troop leader, assisted her husband with the Boy Scouts, and a member of the South River Garden Club.
Peggy’s greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her daughters, Jill Thompson Johns (Bobby) of Linden and Dawn Thompson Marshall (Mark) of Front Royal; grandchildren, Chris Johns (Dominique) of Linden, Robbie Johns (Nichole) of Front Royal, Natalie Johns of Linden, Amanda Thompson of Front Royal, and Olivia Marshall (Will) of Virginia Beach; 10 great-grandchildren; her brother, Robert Franklin of Maryland; and two sisters, Eleanor Franklin Haller of Indiana, and Tammy Franklin Farrell (Keith) of Winchester.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff of Front Royal Family Practice and Warren Memorial Hospital for the compassionate care and kindness shown to Peggy during her final days.
Pallbearers will be David Santmyers, Brad Fletcher, Scotty Williams, Jack Pingley, Michelle Wells, Jeff Henry, Kevin Tanner.
Honorary pallbearers are Annie Mary Williams along with the members of the Front Royal Volunteer Fire Department.
Peggy loved flowers and would have loved for anyone that feels moved to send them.
