Ryan Michael Flynn

Ryan Michael Flynn, 44, of Front Royal, VA, passed away unexpectedly on January 15, 2021, in his home.

Ryan was born on July 21, 1976, in Livonia, MI. He grew up in the Detroit area, Indianapolis, St. Simon’s Island, GA, and Cincinnati. He graduated from Turpin High School in 1994 and went on to earn a B.S. from Miami University in Oxford, OH. He moved to the DC area residing in Frederick, MD, then to Salisbury, MD, where he served as a police officer in the Salisbury and Snow Hill Police Departments, as well as an officer for the Maryland Department of Natural Resources. He joined Customs and Border Protection (CBP) in 2008 in Newport, VT, and worked as a watch commander for CBP’s National Targeting Center while residing in Front Royal, VA.

Ryan married the love of his life, Donna Marie West Flynn, in 2001. They have four beautiful
children, Charles Michael (16), Sean Patrick (13), Liam Connor (11), and Laurel Marie (4), and
their home is filled with love.

Ryan is survived by his adoring family; his mother, Leslie Flynn; his sister, Megan Bueter (Nick);
four nephews (Jack, Ben, Ryan, Evan), six nieces (Erica, Rebecca, Jessica, Geneva, Lena, and
Eloise); and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Ryan is preceded in death by his father,
Ernest Michael Flynn, his in-laws Robert and Opal West, his sister-in-law Tammy Smith, and his
grandparents.

Ryan fully embraced life with humor, wit, and kindness, and he never met a stranger. He was an
avid reader who enjoyed spending time outdoors with his family. He was proud of his Irish
heritage and had an impressive collection of Hawaiian shirts. Ryan will be celebrated and
deeply missed by all who knew him.

The viewing will be held at Maddox Funeral Home in Front Royal on Thursday, January 21,
2021 from 6-8 pm. The funeral service will take place at 10 am on Friday, January 22, 2021. A
celebration of life will be held during the summer. Donations may be made in Ryan’s name to
the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

    Donna,
    I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your husband. I can only imagine how devastated you must be. Please know that I am praying for a peace & comfort for you & your children & Ryan’s family that only God can give in the coming days, months & years to come.

    So long ago when we taught first grade together at Twin Ridge.
    I’m so sorry about your husband, Ryan. It sounds like he was a wonderful person, so committed to you, your four children, and his work. A good life lived not nearly long enough. Never long enough.
