Sergeant Major Willard Bishop

Sergeant Major Willard Bishop, 90, US Army Retired, of Front Royal Virginia, passed away on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at INOVA Fairfax Hospital, In Falls Church, Virginia.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 26, 2018 at 10:30 at Front Royal United Methodist Church with Rev. Terry Clark officiating. Burial will follow at Culpeper National Cemetery.

Mr. Bishop was born July 29th, 1928 in Teges, Kentucky to the late Tollie and Ethel Allen Bishop. He is preceded in his death by brother Stanley Bishop. He was a member of the Hiram Masonic Lodge AF & AM in Winchester Virginia, and a member of the Front Royal, United Methodist Church.

He served in the Army for 26 years, which included tours of duty in Korea and Vietnam where he was awarded the Bronze Star and received a Purple Heart. Later in his career he worked in the Communications Division of the Army, served three presidents, traveled around the world and retired while serving at the Pentagon as a Sergeant Major of the Army.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Tazuye Clara Bishop. Daughter, Linda F. Leady, and her spouse Stephen; grandchildren, Patrick and Jen Leady, Laura and Anthony Ferst; great-grandchildren Julia Leady, Stellarose, and Blake Ferst; Daugher, JoAnne Bishop Taylor, and her spouse Chuck Taylor, grandchildren, Tiffaney and Scott Perhala, and Teneille Taylor; Son James T. Bishop and grandson Jesse Bishop. Brother, Bentley, and his family, Karen-Sue, Glen and Rachel Kindness.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 25, 2018 from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.

    Willard Bishop also known as Granddaddy, was a Husband, father, grandfather, great-grand-father, friend, brother, uncle, nephew, great-nephew, soldier, storyteller and so much more. He made our lives better for being in it. This is a sad time for those left behind. You will be missed Granddaddy. Rest in Peace.
