Wayne Mitchell Smoot, 77, of Luray, Virginia, went home to be with the Lord on November 2, 2026 at Winchester Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, November 9 at 2:00 p.m. at Washington Masonic Cemetery with Pastor Danny Herring.

Wayne was born May 26, 1949 in Culpeper, Virginia, son of the late Billy and Helen Smoot.

He retired after many dedicated years from DynCorp.

Wayne was a faithful member of the Luray Pentecostal Church and enjoyed spending time with his family and church family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and dear friend. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

On September 9, 1967, he married the love of his life, Shirley Wines Smoot, and they spent 59 wonderful years together.

Surviving, along with his wife, are two sons, Chris Smoot (Tabitha) and Todd Smoot, both of Luray; brother, Craig Smoot (Diane) of Frederick, Maryland; six grandchildren, Chrissy, Maddie, Dalton, Meghan, Josh and Johnny; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Chrissy, Maddie, Dalton, Meghan, Josh and Johnny.

The family will receive friends on Monday, November 9 from 1-2 p.m. at Maddox Funeral Home.

Memorial donations may be made to Luray Pentecostal Church.
