Beverly Welford Steed, Jr.

Beverly Welford Steed, Jr., 90, of Front Royal, Virginia, passed away peacefully September 30, 2024 at Winchester Medical Center.

Born October 28, 1933 in Front Royal, Virginia, he was the son of the late Beverly W. Steed, Sr. and Iva Elton Mitchell Steed.

Beverly was the youngest of 12 children and known to all that knew him as “Bayboy”, a name affectionately given to him by his mother because he was the baby.

Beverly served six years in the United States Army during the occupation of Germany and held the rank of Sergeant until discharged. There he met his wife, Elfriede “Connie” Steed. They were married January 19, 1957 in Munich, Germany and spent 66 years together until her passing June 5, 2023.

He was employed most of his life as a painting contractor until his retirement. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be most remembered for his love of animals, fishing, camping and his Green Bay Packers.

He was predeceased by both parents; his wife; and the following siblings, Woodrow W.  Steed, Maynard A. Steed, Josephine Steed, Frances E. Grimm, Bernard G. Steed, Charlotte V. Hager, Lovell W. Steed, Winifred F. Steed, James N. Steed and an infant sister, Mable Steed.

He is survived by daughters, Patricia “Patty” Morris and Connie Sue (Rocky) Morris, both of Front Royal, Virginia; grandsons, Dana Mangene and Aaron Morris; granddaughter, Mindy (Jason) Gibson; great-grandchildren, Austin Wiles, Jaylen Gibson, Gabriella, Katherine and Samuel Mangene; sister, Dorothy Singhas; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to share in a celebration of life November 9, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at the home of Rocky and Connie Sue Morris, 119 E. 19th Street, Front Royal, Virginia.

Interment will be private.

    Connie Sue and Patty sorry for your loss, but what a long full life he had. He was such a character and liked by everyone he knew.

    Thank you Elaine and Billy. Yes, he was definitely a character and he and Billy together were a hoot. So many fond memories. Hugs to both of you.
