Lois Lorraine Almarode Bennett, 86, of Front Royal, VA died October 1, 2016 at Hidden Springs Senior Living in Bentonville, VA, Surrounded by her family.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 5, at 11:00 a.m. at Maddox Funeral Home conducted by Rev. Jim Bunce. Entombment will follow at Shenandoah Memorial Park.
Mrs. Bennett was born November 8, 1929 in Hopewell, VA to Lois Pelter Almarode and Raymond Douglas Alamrode, Sr. She was a 1947 graduate of Warren County High School. Mrs. Bennett worked as an administrative secretary at American Viscose and later as a medical secretary for Doctors Gergen and Puray. She married James C. (Jim) Bennett on May 11, 1951. She was a longtime devoted member and deacon of Marlow Heights Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Jaycettes, Order of the Eastern Star, and the Ladies Auxiliary at Warren Memorial Hospital. She was very talented at sewing, crocheting, cooking, and cross stitch. She enjoyed playing bridge with her friends and cooking for the church, her family and friends, and truly enjoyed spending time with loved ones. Mrs. Bennett will be greatly missed by her family who will forever regard her as “the strongest woman they’ve ever known.” In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband James C. (Jim) Bennett and her brother Raymond Douglas (Gus) Almarode.
She is survived by two daughters Sharon D. Bennett of Front Royal, VA and Jan Bennett Main of Stephens City, VA; her two sisters Jean A. Bell and Carol A. Kenney both of Front Royal,VA; a brother Richard L. Almarode of Sterling, VA; her sister-in-law Mildred H. Almarode of Front Royal, VA; four grandchildren Stephanie R. Lane and husband Shawn of Middletown ,VA, Richard L. (RL) Sargent of Strasburg, VA, Troy D. Bunch and wife Andrea of Front Royal, VA, and Amy L. Sargent of Bentonville, VA; and seven great-grandchildren MacKenzie R. Lane, Trenton N. Lane, Unity S. Neff, Xade S. Neff, Kayden B. Hysong, Story S. Neff, Pax S. Neff, Karsyn D. Bunch and Paisley R. Taylor.
Pallbearers will be RL Sargent, Troy Bunch, Shawn Lane, Trenton Lane, Doug McNeill, and David Bryant.
Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Sealock, Rick Almarode, DJ Almarode, Kayden Hysong, Rae Wines, Dean Morrison, Cheryl Clem, and Bill Wood.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 4, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Maddox Funeral Home.
