Dr. William Kent Renas (Bill), of Winchester and Front Royal passed away on Wednesday October 14th at Winchester Medical Center.
Dr. Renas was born March 24, 1948 in Dayton Ohio to the late Lawrence and Julie Knoblock Renas. He loved both of his parents dearly, crediting his mother with inspiring his healthcare journey and his father with teaching him the patience and persistence that carried him through school.
He was a beloved partner to Lynn Volkmann, father to Brandon and Amanda Gagnon, father-in-law to Mike Riz and Clara Gagnon, and grandfather (Boompa) to Savannah, Hannah, and Mary. His devotion to his family was paramount throughout his life. He would do anything in his power to ensure their fuel tanks were full, their hearts were open, and their flaws were accepted. He kept tiny mementos of those he cared for close at hand–scraps of paper, loving notes, and keepsakes that frequently brought a tearful smile to his face. He will be deeply missed by all who loved him including his nieces and nephews (Christina, Lauren, Lawrence III, Jeffrey, Gregory, Christopher, Jonathon, Kyle, Kent, and Troy). He was preceded in death by his siblings Lawrence Renas Jr, Douglas Renas, and Gay Digby.
Dr. Renas was a passionate and gifted healer. He received a degree in engineering from The University of Miami, then left the field to follow his passion–chiropractic. He received his doctorate from Cleveland Chiropractic College, and spent the rest of his life helping his community lead healthy lives. He will be remembered by his patients and mentees for his skillful adjustments, ardent advice, and commitment to helping everyone his life touched.
Dr. Renas loved to build and fix things. He believed that we are all capable of working through and overcoming life’s challenges if we set our minds to it. The many labors of his love are scattered throughout the worlds of his family and friends as permanent reminders of his affection and care. He always thought outside the box and eagerly shared the secrets he had uncovered about life. He taught us to look up, take care of each other, and hug heart to heart.
And, he reminded us to take our vitamins—even as he shared his secret stash of caramels.
The family will receive friends on November 7th, 2026 at Maddox Funeral Home in Front Royal Virginia from 4:30pm to 6pm. A celebration of life will follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to The One Foundation at onefoundation.kindful.com
