Sammy Wines, age 74, of Chester Gap, VA, passed away unexpectantly on October 13, 2026 at White House Assisted Living near Richmond, VA.
Sammy was born August 24, 1952. He was raised by his father Samuel Bud Wines and his paternal grandmother and multiple aunts.
He was proceeded in death by his father, Samuel Bud Wines; step-mother, Mary Wines; and 12 paternal aunts and uncles.
He is survived by his sisters, Hope Johnston and husband Robert, who Sammy always thought of like a brother and Lisa Wines; aunt, Geneva Elkins, who is the last of his 13 paternal aunts and uncles, Sammy always said he was so blessed to have her with us for so many years; and numerous cousins.
Sammy was a painter by trade and worked in Northen VA with his father, etc. for many years. He dealt with mental illness for four decades and the last many years was in and out of Assisted Living Facilities. We wanted to thank all the staff through the years that helped take care of him; your patience, care, and kindness were greatly appreciated.
Sammy LOVED JESUS and enjoyed watching Jimmy Swaggart on TV, literally he would leave the TV on the same channel 24/7. If you were visiting him and a song came on that he liked, he would start singing loudly, regardless if you were having a conversation with him. The last several years he enjoyed telling others about Jesus and wanted to go to the hospital so he could give out Christian coloring books or stickers and win souls for the Lord. He also loved to sing “Jesus Loves Me” to anyone that would visit him in the facility or hospital; he sometimes would just start singing it while in the middle of a store.
A private funeral will be on Friday, October 23 at Willis Chapel officiated by Sammy Campbell from Maddox Funeral Home.
A Memorial Book will be at Maddox Funeral Home for guests to sign.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution can be made to Jimmy Swaggart Ministires, P.O. Box 262550, Baton Rouge, LA 70826. If you would like to help the family cover funeral costs a donation can be made to Maddox Funeral Home, 105 W. Main St., Front Royal, VA 22630.
