Harriet Anne (Sinclair) Grimsley passed away peacefully at home on Friday, March 18, 2016 surrounded by family and friends. Having made her home in Falls Church, Virginia for many years, she lived with her niece and nephew, Vernon and Dianne Miller in Linden, Virginia for the past five years.
The daughter of George B. and Annie (Griffith) Sinclair, she was born on October 16, 1927 in Hopewell, Virginia. Mrs. Grimsley attended Marshall High School, graduating in 1944. Following graduation she was employed in Washington, DC with Olivetti and then with the American Cancer Research Institute for 25 plus years, retiring at the age of 83.
Surviving Mrs. Grimsley are her stepson, John Grimsley and wife Clotelle of Martinsburg, West Virginia; her stepdaughter, Cindy Wilkins and husband Lincoln of Kissimmee, Florida; a sister Clara (Sinclair) Kern and husband Otto of Hampden, Massachusetts; a brother, Robert Sinclair and wife Lulu of Marshall, Virginia. Also surviving are six grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her husband, John S. Grimsley, a stepson, William R. Grimsley, and two brothers, George C. Sinclair and Leslie G. Sinclair.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 PM on Thursday, March 24, 2016 at Maddox Funeral Home in Front Royal, Virginia. The funeral service will be held at 10 AM on Friday, March 25, 2016 also at the funeral home with burial to follow at Orlean Cemetery in Orlean, Virginia.
A memorial luncheon will be held at the Moose Lodge on Route 55 in Front Royal, Virginia immediately following the graveside service.
