John Allen Proper

John Allen Proper, 69, of Washington, Virginia passed away on Saturday, August 1, 2026 at the University of Virginia Medical Center.

A funeral service will take place at 11 AM on Saturday, August 8, 2026 at Maddox Funeral Home, 105 W Main Street, Front Royal, Virginia with Pastor David Pruett officiating. The family invites guests to visit with them one hour prior to the service. John’s burial will take place at a later date.

John was born on January 14, 1957 in Titusville, Pennsylvania to the late, Monroe Morse and Barbara J. Ball Proper. He was also preceded in death by his adopted son, Caleb Proper.

Surviving John is his wife of 40 years, Sharron Proper; his children, Eve Proper, Jeremy Proper (Leslie), Shiloh Proper, Elizabeth Proper, and Ethan “James” Proper; his siblings, Ralph Proper (Shirley), Carol Proper, and Martha “Marti” Heisler (Bob); his eleven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four nieces; and two nephews.

After graduation from Titusville High School in 1975, John attended Penn State University in pursuit of his mechanical engineering degree. In addition after being accepted for ROTC pilot training in his sophomore year, army doctors found through a series of testing the eventual failure of John’s kidney function caused from a undetected bacterial infection which lead to the need for dialysis in 1977. After receiving a kidney transplant 11–1-1980, John began his life long journey of his appreciation for God’s help through the healing process of medicine by always eating healthy food, gardening, beekeeping, etc. He went on to achieve his degree in aeronautical engineering and worked for the U.S. government many years before retiring. He also enjoyed many other hobbies such as camping, photography (developing pictures), amateur radio. and many other activities. He is at peace with our Lord, but will be missed by his family and all who knew him.
