Joyce Elaine Shipe Fritts, 77, of Front Royal, VA, passed away on Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at Warren Memorial Hospital.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 5, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Maddox Funeral Home conducted by Rev. Buzz Moore and Rev. Joe Swack. Burial will follow in Rockland Cemetery.
Mrs. Fritts was born March 16, 1937 in Warren County, VA, daughter of the late Cleveland Ernest Shipe and Nannie Mae Oliver Shipe. She graduated fromWarren County High School in 1955 and Winchester School of Nursing in 1958. She retired from Warren Memorial Hospital in 1992, where she was head nurse of ICU and CCU, and also worked in quality review. She belonged to the American Heart Association, and the Mental Health Association. She was a longtime member of the Rockland Community Church, where she served as church secretary, Sunday school superintendent and teacher, as well as singing in the church choir.
Surviving are her husband Tommy Fritts; one son Reggie Fritts and wife Lisa of Front Royal; two step-children Timmy Fritts and wife Lisa and Sydney Hammond and husband Ronnie; two sisters Jeraldine Ridgway and JaniceShipe; four grandchildren Matthew Fritts, Mattison Fritts, Brice Fritts, and Thomas Fritts; and two great-grandchildren Ava Grace Fritts and LeannaMcIntyre. She was preceded in death by a sister Jeanette Moore.
Pallbearers will be Matthew Fritts, Thomas Fritts, Brice Fritts, Larry Oliver, Billy Royston, and Ernie Grove.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ben and Carol Weddle, Kay Largent, Scottie Thomson, Kathy Derflinger and Cynthia Putnam.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Monday, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
