Katharine Varner Bowman

Katharine Varner Bowman, 82, of Front Royal, Virginia passed away on Friday, March 28, 2025 in the comfort of her home.

A funeral service will be held at 1 P.M. on Thursday, April 3, 2025 at Maddox Funeral Home, 105 W Main St, Front Royal, Virginia with Pastor Doug Lowell officiating. Following all services, the burial will take place at Panorama Memorial Gardens.

Katharine was born on May 14, 1942 in Washington D.C. to the late Avery Demarco Varner and Willeen Matilda King Peake. She was also preceded by her son, William Anthony “Tony” Bowman; and her step-father, Robert “Bob” Peake.

Surviving Katharine is her loving husband of 63 years, William Hiram Bowman; her sons, Steven Bowman (Judy) and Michael Bowman; her brother, Curt Peake (Donna); her grandchildren, Tonya Bowman, Alayna Bowman, and Michael Beaty; her 4 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Katharine loved aerobics and jazzercise and participated in each for over 20 years. In her spare time, she loved baking, and made delicious cookies. She also worked for Gibson Greetings for over 20 years and worked at and retired from Martin’s Foods.

The family invites guests to visit with them on Wednesday, April 2, 2025 from 6-7 P.M. at Maddox Funeral Home.

Flowers will be accepted at Maddox Funeral Home, or memorial contributions may be made to Blue Ridge Hospice at 333 W Cork Street Unit 405, Winchester, Virginia 22601.

    Michael I’m so sorry to hear of your mom’s passing. She was such a sweet lady. She was a pleasure to work with. She always had a smile and kind word for everyone she spoke to. May you find peace. Hugs from your Martin’s family.
