Roger Lee Atkins, 75, of Sperryville, Virginia, passed away suddenly on Saturday, November 23, 2024 at Lavender Hills Front Royal Campus in Front Royal, Virginia.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 29 at 1:00 p.m. at Maddox Funeral Home with Pastor Sandy Martin officiating. Interment will follow in Washington Masonic Cemetery in Washington, Virginia.
Roger was born February 6, 1949 in Rappahannock County, Virginia, son of the late Roy Reynolds Atkins, Sr. and Mary Anna Jenkins Atkins.
He retired after many years from VDOT as an Inspector. Following retirement, Roger enjoyed travelling with family and friends to Montana where he loved to fish and enjoy the outdoors.
He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
Surviving is a brother, Roy Atkins, Jr. and wife Betty of Boston, Virginia; one sister, Beverly Atkins and husband Ronald of Washington, Virginia; nephew, Todd Atkins and wife Holly of Flint Hill, Virginia; and his loving and longtime companion, Betty Sisk of Sperryville, Virginia.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Patricia Atkins.
Pallbearers will be Todd Atkins, David Smoot, Neil Atkins, Andy Dwyer, Darren Dodson, Ronald Dodson, Edward Jenkins and Rodney Coates.
Honorary pallbearers will be his caregivers, Debbie Frye, Nancy Freeman, Michelle Jenkins, Kim Nicholson, Linda Baldwin, Diana Corbin, Conner Frye and Jordan Frye.
The family will receive friends on Friday, November 29 from 12-1 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Sperryville Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department, 12 Main Street, Sperryville, Virginia 22740.
My thoughts and prayers goes out to the family of Roger Atkins. Betty you are also in my thoughts and prayers. Roger was a kind and gentle man and will be missed by all of those that knew and loved him. Each and everyone of us knows that he is now in God’s hands right along with his mom, dad, and little sister whom he loved so dearly. We was all so blessed to have been given the opportunity to have known Roger. Rest in peace my friend. Until we meet again.
