A graveside service was held on Friday, April 10, 2020 at Good Hope Cemetery in Front Royal, Virginia with Reverend Alfred Woods officiating.

Audrey was born on July 11, 1927, in Hume, Virginia to the late James and Lavinia Washington. Audrey was the youngest of eleven children.

Audrey was preceded in death by her husband Charles Winston Kenner, Sr. and 9 siblings; Harvey Washington, Minnie Dunn, Hilton Washington, Lorunzel Washington, James Edward Washington, Moffett Washington, Viola Coleman, Manuel Washington, Sr., and Ethel Baltimore. She is survived by her son, Charles Winston Kenner, Jr., Upper Marlboro, Maryland; three daughters, Linda Brooks-Thomas (son-in-law, Roland Thomas), Dumfries, Virginia; Laverne Kenner, Gainesville, Virginia; Joyce Kenner, Front Royal, Virginia, and one sister, Edith Phillips of Cleveland, Ohio. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren; Tracy Doaks (Blaine Doaks), Raleigh, North Carolina, Robert Brooks (Lolita Brooks), Dumfries, Virginia, Brandy Tillman (Jeremy Tillman), Woodbridge, Virginia, Candace Kenner, White Plains, Maryland, Jessica Kenner, Bowie, Maryland, Shannon Kenner, Waldorf, Maryland, Madison Kenner, California, Maryland, 10 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

On July 18, 1982, Audrey gave her life to Christ and was baptized under the pastorship of Reverend Tom Adams, Beulah Baptist Church in Markham, Virginia. She was a dedicated church member who walked by faith, she loved the Lord and worshipping with her church members, and the surrounding churches. She rarely missed any church homecomings or anniversaries; she especially loved to fellowship with the people she grew up with from her hometown, Hume, Virginia and Markham Virginia. Also, in 1982, she became a member of the Angelic Voices Community Choir in Front Royal, Virginia.

Audrey attended Jefferson High School in Charlestown, West Virginia. Later in life, after raising her children, in 1986 she studied courses to become a nurse at the Lord Fairfax Community College in Middletown, Virginia. Audrey had a passion for learning how to play the piano. In 1996 she began taking private piano lessons and had her first successful piano recital in 2009 where she received the “Most Determined Student” certificate. She was very proud of that award.

Audrey enjoyed life, she had a great sense of humor and loved to play jokes on you, she had the most affectionate smile and laugh, she was patient and kind to everyone she met, always there to listen and to lend a helping hand to those in need. She shared her wisdom and great advice; and she always stood up for what she believed was right. She loved being around people, she liked visiting parks and the malls, but most of all she enjoyed spending quality time with her family. She would attend all family events, whether or not she was feeling well, she was going to be there. Her favorite pass times was talking for hours on the phone; keeping up with current news events by watching CNN or reading the newspapers. She also loved to travel, and taking rides through the mountains and to neighboring towns. She loved to dine out, listen to gospel, jazz and country music, as well as classical piano. And let’s not forget she loved wearing her hats especially her pink hat that she was famously known to wear.

Audrey was truly loved and will be missed by all who knew her.

We love you Mama. “Good night and we’ll see you in the morning”.

Mama, It’s so hard to believe that you’ve taken flight to your eternal resting place, but God knew what was best for you. You fought a good fight, with battling so many health complications, including the advance stages of dementia throughout your life’s journey here on earth. Your absence is definitely felt, nothing is the same without you, not even taking a lil joy ride. I miss my co-pilot, my best friend. You are forever in my heart. Rest well in the arms of our Savior. I love you. I’ll see you in the morning. Your loving daughter Joyce Ann.❤️❤️❤️

Dear Aunt Audrey and family, I love You! I didn’t realize this site was being used or I would have wrote something a long time ago. Some are slow in ways. I bet others thought the same because COVID caused everything to be so rushed and shortened. 🙁

Anyway, no more tears. Auntie, you are home with God and His angels and having so much fun with other loved ones (including my mom—give her a big hug for me). I’m glad you were (& are) my aunt while you were here. I found one of your jokes in my pocket today, so was led here by you. 🙂

Miss you and see you One day soon!

    Love, hugs, kisses, Maxie
