Barbara Elaine Deale-Herrold aka Mom, Grandmommy, Grammymommy, BK, Babs, Barb, 76, of Pomfret, Maryland, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 19, 2026. Born on June 5, 1949, Barbara was the beloved daughter of the late Winfrey Deale and Eunice Lee Kinsey-Deale. To know Barbara was to love her; she was truly the life of the party and radiated a warmth that drew people to her. Her life was defined by an extraordinary kindness to everyone she met, leaving a lasting impression on friends, colleagues, and strangers alike.
A Distinguished Career
Barbara began her professional journey in business shortly after high school, embarking on a distinguished career in public service. Her talent and dedication led her to roles with NASA and the Department of the Interior. She eventually retired from Capitol Hill, where she spent many years working for her adored Congressman, J.J. “Jake” Pickle of Texas. She took immense pride in her work and the many friendships she formed during her years in our Nation’s Capital.
Family and Legacy
While her career was impressive, Barbara’s greatest joy was her family. She was a deeply loving mother, sister, grandmother, and friend. She is survived by her partner of over two decades, John “Butch” Davis, and her daughters:
• Lisa Michelle Smallwood and her husband, Chris Smallwood
• Kimberly Marie Kennedy and her partner, Christian Tuttle
• Kinsey Alexandra Herrold
She is also survived by her brother, Richard “Ricky aka Slick” Hamilton Deale; her grandchildren, Michael Andrew Borza, Christopher Sean Smallwood, Lexington “Lex” Louis Farri, Bailey Monroe Herrold-Farri, and Bella Rose Herrold; and her great-grandson, Atlas Lee Smallwood.
Barbara will be most remembered for a heart that held a special place for every living creature. Whether it was the birds in the backyard or the stray cat on the corner, no animal was ever a stranger to Barbara. She found immense joy and companionship in the love of all animals.
