Greta and Elizabeth, Your heart is broken by Ralph’s transition, yet joyous, knowing his faith was strong. He left his mark on so many lives. I, personally, rejoice because Ralph and Greta made such a huge impact on my life at Reliance. Bible School, Sunday School, church dinners, homemade ice cream, Youth Fellowship, Choir practices, it is a long list of always knowing Ralph Powell would be there. If someone was in need or there was a question at church, it was always, ‘go ask Ralph’. He always had the answer. I thank and honor him for his influence on my spiritual life, during my formative years. Ralph’s gentle way, warm smile and faith were always on display. I will miss him. Greta and Elizabeth, my prayer is God’s comfort as you make this walk. A great man has joined God’s Reliance angels. My love surrounds each of you, Lou Ann (Judy) Thompson

    Greta,
You and Ralph were such a warm, welcoming light for all of us in Reliance. I remember, one day in church when the twins were fussy, he said to me with the kindest smile and the hint of a laugh “this isn’t anything – just you wait for them to get older!”
Ralph was always so supportive of everyone in the church….he knew and celebrated when someone got a job, got married, had a baby, went on a big vacation, etc. His affirmation of others was truly a gift.
I know that Ralph is in Heaven now, smiling down on you, Elizabeth and everyone in Reliance – but that twinkle in his eye is mostly because of missing being with you. You two were, for me, the ideal couple.

      Tracy,
Thanks so much for sharing your kind words and memories. Watching your kids brought us great joy and amusement.
Ralph did share through his actions: his smiles, the knowing looks, or just being there to lend a hand when he could. I think he hoped that other people would pass on the kindness.
      We will miss him.
      Love,

I wish I’d known Mr. Powell. But I knew of him: he was practically an institution in Reliance, well-known for his kindness and his
faith-driven dedication to the church. I hope his family’s grief is helped by knowing good people never really leave us. They live through their past kindnesses like beautiful stones in a river — creating far reaching ripples.

      Kamran,
Thank you so much for your kind words.
It means a great deal to know that Ralph made a positive impact, even on those who may not have known him personally. Ralph shared his faith through his actions. I think he hoped that other people would pass on the kindness. Your description of creating ripples that reach far beyond what we can see sums it up perfectly.
      We will miss him.
